Posted by Stephanie

Many people think that boy’s puberty and acne are not a cause for concern but boys might disagree. Acne can have an affect on the self esteem of the young man and makes this transitional time harder to deal with.

Boys, puberty and acne can be managed if you know what to do. When the boy starts showing signs of acne you can try a change in his diet. Some folks agree that eating greasy foods or foods that contain chocolate may add to the problem of boys, puberty and acne. Although most experts disagree with this acne myth.

It is important for the boy to keep his face clean. There are many products on the market that can be used for cleansing if acne is a problem. Boys during puberty may find these products to be helpful.

Sometimes puberty and stress can combine to make acne even worse. Find the causes of stress and work on reducing or eliminating it. The acne itself can lead to stress and then you have a vicious cycle. A boy during puberty does not need the added stress of acne.

When you are dealing with boys during puberty it is helpful to know some things about acne. Here are some tips about boys during puberty who are experiencing acne.

Acne tip #1: Take the condition seriously. Acne outbreaks may not seem like a big deal to you but they may be a big deal to a boy during puberty.

Acne tip #2: Suggest a gentle skin cleaning regimen rather than severe scrubbing with harsh cleaners. A mild cleanser that can be used twice a day is all that is needed.

Acne tip #3: Ask a doctor or dermatologist for skin care advice. A health care professional will be able to guide you as far as a good cleaning program.

Acne tip #4: It is not a good idea to squeeze or pick at blemishes. This practice only makes the acne worse, and makes the scars last longer.

Acne tip #5: Try using acne skin care products that do not promote blemishes. There are acne products that are labeled as non-comedogenic that should not clog pores.

Acne tip #6: If the boy is shaving try using different types of razors. Sometimes an electric razor is the best but for other boys a safety razor will be more comfortable.

Acne tip #7: If the acne is severe you may need a dermatologist to prescribe a medication for the boy during puberty. Sometimes a prescription is necessary to lessen the affects of the acne.

Boys during puberty need a lot of support and understanding. Learning the best way to combat an acne condition will help a boy during puberty so that he can cope with all the other changes that he is going through.

Choosing a Weight Loss Diet Program

Posted by Stephanie

As more and more people are becoming health conscious, diet programs are becoming more popular as well. Diet programs are popular because they work–but not all programs work for everyone.

There are a number of ways to discover which weight loss diet program is right for you. You can research on the Internet by simply doing a search on the program you are considering. Read the information about how the program works, the costs involved, the support offered, and any other information that is important in your decision-making process. Some sites will offer a quiz in which you answer pertinent questions about lifestyle, habits, the way you eat, the amount of stress in your life, family members, and other questions deemed necessary by the quiz producer to help sort out which diet program is best suited to your specific needs.

Most information points to the fact that the best diet programs are flexible and sustainable, and that a successful plan must be adaptable to the individual. It should take into consideration not only the weight you want to lose, but also your personality type, level of activity, do you live or work in a stressful situation. others living your household, and any special situations or conditions that are likely to affect your attempt to lose weight.

When choosing a diet program, remember that you will be eating this way for the rest of your life if you want to maintain your new healthier weight. It will probably mean a conscious effort to change habits, since the old habits got you where you’re at and you don’t want to go there again. The two biggest reasons people give up their diet programs are impatience and unrealistic expectations regarding the time, effort and results of a safe and lasting weight loss process.

Health, fitness and diet programs are a great way to learn efficient ways to get healthy and in shape. To help dieters do this, many professional weight-control programs offer special dietary and exercise plans, as well as psychological support. Most diet programs are designed for people with no specific health problems, but all recommend checking with a doctor before starting their diet program.

Weight Watchers, Atkins, South Beach, LA Weight Loss, and NutriSystem are only a few of the many well-known diet programs available and there are hundreds of lesser known diet programs that are worthy of consideration.

Before you begin any effort at weight loss, you will want to do some research into what the various plans offer and look at the costs involved. Programs with meals prepared and delivered are the most costly and convenient, but you also want to consider whether there is continuing support to maintain your weight loss once you have reached your goal. Plans that involve you in the preparation of the foods you eat are without doubt the best way to go because they are more likely to be sustainable. The downside is that much more time is involved and more knowledge of what is and what is not healthy is also necessary. There are many diet programs that offer a middle-of-road program.

Don’t be too hasty in your decision. Choose a diet program wisely after you have educated yourself a bit and you will be able to reach your weight loss goal.

3 Weight Loss Myths - The Truth!

Posted by Stephanie

How many weight loss tips do you know? Plenty, right? You’ve read them in the health and fitness magazines, you’ve seen them on the Internet, you may have heard them from your doctor, and you’ve certainly discussed them with your friends.

By now you probably know, although may not want to believe, that fad diets, the best weight loss pills and supplements do not work. However, we constantly hold out hope that THIS diet or pill or piece of exercise equipment will be the ONE. And let’s not insult your intelligence by lecturing you on the need to take in fewer calories than you use up during the day.

The problem is that the weight loss industry is filled with myths and misleading information. Why is this? Maybe it’s because they want you to buy their products. People also misinterpret information and so truths may get twisted. Here are three common myths and the truth about each one.

Myth #1: It is possible to accomplish spot reduction of fat. FALSE! It is impossible to force your body to spot reduce, no matter what workouts you are doing. Doing crunches and leg lifts to reduce belly fat frequently reduces the muscle mass rather than the fat beneath the abdomen. So instead of focusing on working out one area of your body, it is best to work your entire body while you follow a healthy diet. This will certainly speed up your metabolism and that is what burns fat.

Myth #2: Drastically reducing calorie intake will reduce your body fat. FALSE again. This myth is what pushes people to crash diet. Hasn’t most everyone tried this? Yes, you may have lost some water weight, but what happens you drastically reduce your intake? Your body goes into starvation mode. Starvation mode actually slows your metabolism and burns muscle rather than fat for energy. So you lose muscle instead of fat, and when you return to your usual eating patterns, you will regain any weight lost.

Myth #3: Cardio exercises alone will help you lose weight. FALSE once more. Yes, cardio and aerobic exercises can help you lose fat, but you need to add weight lifting. Actually, weight lifting is better than both cardio and aerobics. Why? Because weight lifting helps your body burn fat not only during the workout, but also after the workout. That is great news!

Debunking these three myths and proceeding on the right path of proper food intake and proper workouts will surely lead you to become a fat burner and lose that weight.

Don’t Know Much About Art…Find What You Like!

Posted by Stephanie

Contemporary art is forever making the headlines, which shouldn’t be surprising as everyone has an opinion about what art is and what they think that it should be. Art is one of those subjects that people say that they know nothing about, and then spend the next ten minutes pontificating on. Most of the public look at contemporary art, as seen for example at events like the Turner Prize, and believe that the up and coming artist deliberately looks for controversy and sensationalism.

The majority of the population thinks that art should make a clear, easily understood statement, and should be, in general, representational. The minority is less rigid in their thinking and believes that arts important qualities are more to do with imagination, originality and expression.

Hours of television, press and radio time is spent discussing the two sides of the argument, but whatever our own conclusions are we must remember that one of arts most valuable and fundamental aspects is its diversity. It is easy to scorn and criticize art work that we don’t understand or that doesn’t correspond to our own ideas about art like car grilles hung from the ceiling, for example.  But, if we turn back the pages of art history, we will find that artists that we now consider as great, and years ahead of their time were often lambasted when their work was first exhibited to the public.

A recent television art docu-drama series about the Impressionist painters gives examples of this. Manet’s “Olympia” is one of the most popular prints published, and is on millions of walls all over the world. What could we possibly find offensive about this painting? Obviously nothing considering its world wide popularity.

But, when it was first exhibited at the Paris Salon of 1865 it was considered crude and not up to the standards of the Salon. It was subject to so much hostility that it was removed from its original spot in the main hall and re-hung in a less conspicuous position, so high up the wall that it was impossible to view it properly. We now regard this painting as one of Manet’s finest paintings, and many art critics would consider it a modern masterpiece.

Picasso, Turner, and Van Gogh - the list goes on forever of artists that could have been used to illustrate the point. It is paradoxical that we want to see great art produced in our own time, but we are seldom ready to understand it. This brings us back to our original question. Are the up and coming artists of the day sensationalists, or should we give them the benefit of the doubt and let history judge them? Is Tracy Emmin’s “Bed” and Chris Ofili’s elephant dung paintings art? Or are they, as many would have it, symptomatic of the lowering of standards that we are coming to expect from a bunch of over hyped, under talented so called artists?

In all fields we will find individuals that play the system, are confidence tricksters and will attempt to “get away” with anything that they can. But, most artists are genuine and are deeply involved in their own creativity and ideas. It must be up to us to try to understand what these younger artists are trying to do. If we look and study and still can’t understand let us at least appreciate that we may just be people of our own time and as art history shows we may be looking at people who are a step or two ahead of us.
