Making the Most of Bath Time

Posted by Stephanie

OK, bathing kids 101 - never leave child unattended. However, once you have them bathed and they just want to play, do you just sit or do you use the time wisely? As a homeschooling mother of 3, I find that I have to constantly multi-task. This time of the day offers a wonderful opportunity to do this.

You could use the time to clean the sink, catch up on some reading, crochet, make a phone call, teach your child a song, poem or Bible verse, paint your toenails or shock your husband by applying some make-up while you’re in there. The possibilities are endless. If you do this, you will no longer look at bath time as a drudgery.

I turned my back on my son once when he was in the tub and when I turned back he had the shampoo bottle tipped up and he was drinking it! I grabbed him and called poison control, they said the soap would make him sick, but wouldn’t hurt him. After he got sick and finally fell asleep I was watching him, feeling like a terrible new mom, when he started blowing bubbles from the remaining soap in his mouth. I can still see that sweet little face and the bubbles going up and down with each breath. I just found out that that little boy is expecting his own child now, time flies, enjoy your babies!

    Hello bookbabie,
Thanks for your wise comment. I bet that did scare you. My “baby” is 3 now. I have to put the shampoo and bubble bath out of his reach because he loves to experiment too. Congratulations on your grandchild!
